Safeguarding Policy
Shared Ownership Resources is committed to providing a safe, fair and respectful environment for everyone who interacts with our project. This includes people who use our services, volunteers, suppliers and partners. (Shared Ownership Resources does not employ staff.)
What do we mean by safeguarding?
Charitable incorporated organisations (CIOs) have a responsibility to protect people who come into contact with them from harm. Safeguarding refers to the measures we take to do this.
Our safeguarding measures
Policies
We have an unacceptable behaviour policy and a bullying and harassment policy to explain our expectations, and the actions we will take if necessary.
We have a complaints policy and a whistleblowing policy so people understand how they can raise concerns.
Trustee code of conduct
All trustees agree to abide by Shared Ownership Resources’ code of conduct when agreeing to become a trustee.
My SO Home
Anyone contributing to the My SO Home series of case studies will be asked if they want to maintain anonymity. Shared Ownership Resources will not publish any My SO Home feature until the contributor has approved the final content and presentation, including images.
Journalist requests
Where Shared Ownership Resources shares a request from a journalist for case studies or research, we will provide a link to third party information on the risks and measures to protect themself (for example: How to talk to a journalist).
Safeguarding vulnerable people
Shared Ownership Resources does not specifically provide services to people identified as vulnerable individuals: for example, adults at risk (people who are not in a position to protect their own wellbeing, property or rights) or children.
However, we recognise that anyone can be vulnerable at times, whether due to:
- health issues (e.g. severe or long-term illness)
- life events (e.g. relationship breakdown or bereavement)
- resilience (e.g. inadequate income or low savings)
- capability (e.g. low knowledge or low confidence in managing their finances)
We will signpost people, as applicable, to relevant sources of information and support (for example, their housing provider landlord and/or charities providing free debt advice).
